Who are Teledyne e2v?
Teledyne e2v is a trailblazer in advanced technology with a deep-rooted history in Chelmsford. We are the largest private employer in Chelmsford with over 800 employees based at our 24 acre facility. Since the 1940s, we have been designing and manufacturing a range of world leading Radio Frequency (RF) Power and microwave products at our city centre location, where we first built radar equipment during WW2. Our RF product portfolio and the diversity of applications has grown steadily since, particularly in the Healthcare market, where we are now proud to supply crucial components to 90% of the world’s radiotherapy systems. Our Space Imaging CCD (Charge Coupled Device) and CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor) devices have spent nearly 3,000 years in space, having been developed by our teams of specialist scientists and engineers in Chelmsford for organisations such as the European Space Agency (ESA) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

What have you been up to in 2024?
Our business is growing rapidly, with significant new orders won and opportunities ahead. We have recently been appointed as the prime contractor for the optical payload on ESA’s LISA mission, the first scientific endeavour to detect and study gravitational waves from space. In healthcare we have secured a multi order deal to launch our compact RF sub-system into Leo Cancer Care’s innovative upright patient treatment radiotherapy system. We have been focusing on the investment and recruitment needed to deliver these and other exciting new projects while maintaining our current market leading position in component supply.

What are your plans for the future?
Our focus is on continuing to deliver exceptional products and customer satisfaction while growing our business for the future as we strengthen and develop our systems capabilities. There is significant opportunity for us to exploit the growing commercial space market and continue working closely with the wider Teledyne family to leverage complementary technologies. In healthcare we are collaborating across the Teledyne family to develop exciting technological innovations that could vastly improve patient diagnosis. We continue to invest in our city centre site and employee experience to create rewarding jobs and career paths in a great place to work.

Do you think Essex is a place for business? If yes, why?
Chelmsford provides us with a well connected location, with excellent rail, road and air networks crucial for a global business. Our employees enjoy a range of sustainable travel options to get to work and the wonderful surroundings of the city parks and bustling retail, entertainment and leisure facilities.
