Greater Essex to take centre stage at UKREIIF

Greater Essex is set to take to the stage at UKREiiF, the UK’s Real Estate Investment and Infrastructure Forum, this May.

As part of Greater Essex Day, there will be a programme of panel discussions that will put the region firmly on the map as a growth hotspot.

Key delegates and business leaders from across the region will showcase its booming economy, investor-ready projects, dynamic business landscape, and the UK’s largest Garden Communities programme.

UKREiiF has established itself as the UK’s premier real estate conference. It aims to connect people, places and businesses to drive sustainable, inclusive and transformative investment and regeneration.

Essex County Council, Harlow Council and other local authorities from the region will host a day of events, panel discussions and networking, promoting a strong message to the investment markets that ‘Essex is open for business’. They will be joined by local business leaders, including members of the Greater Essex Business Board.

With Greater Essex on the Government’s Devolution Priority Programme, UKREiiF provides an opportunity for investors, developers and policymakers to better understand the region’s potential to deliver vital UK growth.

Greater Essex is a key UK gateway to trade and investment. It boasts two international airports, London Stansted and London Southend, and two Freeports, as well as being well connected to London, Cambridge and the M11 corridor.

The region has recently seen significant investment. This includes the government’s announcement of the go-ahead for the £9 billion Lower Thames Crossing, a £1.1 billion expansion of Stansted Airport and a £1 billion investment in DP World’s colossal London Gateway container port

Greater Essex also has a programme of future investment in the pipeline. At Thames Freeport, there is 1,700 acres of available development land where investors will be eligible for generous financial incentives from the UK government. At Freeport East Harwich (Bathside Bay), there are plans for a clean energy hub. In addition, there are a range of transformative projects planned for the 412-acre Thames Enterprise Park.

The region is driving new standards and building new places through the largest Garden Communities programme in the country. With 24,000 new homes going through planning permission this year, the region could potentially deliver 1.6% of the national target in just four planning applications.

Councillor Louise McKinlay, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Communities, Economic Growth and Prosperity, Essex County Council, said: “Greater Essex is a thriving, entrepreneurial, and creative region with an unparalleled economic offer. A hub of innovation, industry, and investment.

“Our businesses, infrastructure, and strategic location make us an investment-ready destination. With billions already being committed, we’re seeing real momentum, and with the right partnerships and backing, this is just the beginning.

“We will be attending UKREiiF with our partners from across the region with the aim of making connections, forging partnerships, and making sure Greater Essex can be part of the next wave of economic success.”

Held in the Thames Estuary Growth Board Café, Greater Essex Day will also see the formal launch of the recently formed Greater Essex Business Board.

Julia Gregory, Chair of the Greater Essex Business Board, said: “Our mission is to bring together influential key business leaders to advocate in the interest of Greater Essex. We will be at UKREiiF to support Greater Essex set out its case for investment and growth.”
