Who are Akhter?
Akhter was founded in 1979 by Professor Humayun Mughal in Harlow developing peripherals for BBC computers, and soon moved into building their own IBM compatible computers. In 1982, Akhter began supplying the Ministry of Defence with IT solutions, a market place in which Akhter has continued to operate in ever since along the way also branching out into the Education, Healthcare, Law Enforcement and corporate sectors. In a rapidly changing industry, Akhter have survived by being able to adapt, innovate and always put the needs and satisfaction of the customer first.

What have you been up to in 2024?
2024 was another good year for Akhter, constantly striving to put the needs of our customers first. Research and Development has always been at the heart of everything Akhter do, and 2024 has seen Akhter further improve upon and continue to innovate in the defence arena with some exciting new products being tested in a variety of different theatres.

What are your plans for the future?
Akhter builds its plans upon its customer relationships. From knowing the customer and understanding their requirements Akhter are able to either offer existing solutions or develop their own bespoke solutions to ensure that the customers needs are met. The growth that has been experienced over the last few years is directly proportional to the faith and trust in Akhter that their customers have. Moving forward Akhter intend to continue to exceed customer expectations that will facilitate further growth

Do you think Essex is a place for business? If so, why?
Akhter was founded in Harlow, Essex and the town continues to be the home of the companies headquarters. The excellent transport links (road, rail, plane) that the county offer along with the proximity to many of the companies customers mean that Essex is a good fit for Akhter as a place for business.

NHS AV Framework

Akhter were announced as a supplier on the NHS AV Framework! This covers the integration of audio visual solutions into operating theatres, such as high specification diagnostic and theatre imaging solutions. The connection of operating theatres with multi-disciplinary team rooms (MDT) for specialist collaboration across multiple sites, and provides a provision for patient check-in, patient entertainment and digital signage solutions.
