What have you been up to in 2024?
2024 was a great year for innovation at Raytheon UK, seeing many programmes and projects hit significant milestones and revolutionising the way the industry utilises technology both in production and end products.

Our High-Energy Laser Weapon System hit some huge milestones, including becoming the first laser weapon integrated and fired from a land vehicle in the UK, and ending the year with a successful live fire in the latest stage of the Ministry of Defence’s Land Laser Directed Energy Weapon demonstrator programme.

Our Command and Staff Training (CAST) contract, a decades long partnership with the British Army, was extended following another successful NATO Exercise Cerberus military exercise. Raytheon UK’s Advanced Battlespace Computer Simulation System used in CAST integrates virtual and live environments to enhance realism and provide crucial real-time feedback to soldiers. The extension highlights our commitment to providing cutting edge technology-based solutions that meet the evolving needs of modern military operations in Britain.

We began utilising revolutionary model-based design technology on our PhantomStrike programme, allowing us to predict customer needs and lowering risk factors and leaving us with a lighter and more advanced radar system. It is manufacturing for the future, today.

We also held our biggest national Quadcopter Competition ever with over 259 students and cadets taking part. Future engineers from across the UK were invited to compete and redesign a quadcopter. We were blown away by innovation and creativity by the talented students from Essex and beyond and can’t wait to see what they do next.

What are your plans for the future?
2025 is looking like an exciting year for us as we continue to deliver products and results for our customers, utilising some of the best technology and minds in the UK. We continue to be committed to supporting our British military operations in their evolving needs and work to keep the UK safe.

Our Quadcopter Challenge celebrates its tenth anniversary this year so it will be even bigger and better with more schools and students involved than ever before to celebrate and nurture the brilliant young minds we have in the Essex and all corners of the UK.

Do you think Essex is a place for business? If yes, why?
Essex is an excellent place for businesses, especially the technology sector. There’s a lot of talent here, and we are proud to support and invest in the young talent of Essex through graduate schemes and apprenticeships. With other fantastic technology businesses located here, we are in a prime position to collaborate and ensure that the UK is at the forefront of innovation.

Beyond the talent and existing businesses, it is great location to work across the UK with direct routes to London and beyond as well as two great airports allowing us to easily conduct international business.
