Thames Estuary

Stretching from London to Southend and along the Kent coast, the Thames Estuary is one of the UK’s most important economic regions, forecasting 1.3 million new jobs by 2050. With its excellent rail links and potential to unlock investment and development, it is a hub for business and innovation. Within the region is the Thames Estuary Production Corridor – an ambitious programme developing a centre for creative and cultural production, which aims to drive innovation, create jobs, develop local talent, and support the growth of the creative economy.

UK Innovation Corridor

Renowned for its strengths in life sciences, the UK Innovation Corridor (UKIC) passes through Essex. Chesterford Research Park and the Braintree Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult are located within close proximity to Cambridge and London Stansted Airport.

Freeport East

Home to Britain’s biggest and busiest container port, in addition to two major ferry ports, Freeport East provides access to more than 190 countries and offers tax and customs incentives.

Essex Energy Coast

With more than 350 miles of coastline, Essex is a key destination for the growing green hydrogen, offshore and onshore wind industries. The East of England region, which includes the counties of Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk, among others, is also the location of choice for a number of large-scale renewable energy projects.

Central Essex

Located at the heart of the county, Central Essex provides strategic access to major road, rail, air and port transportation routes, making it a powerhouse for advanced manufacturing, financial services, and other key growth-driving sectors.

Thames Freeport

Strategically positioned along the River Thames, the Thames Freeport economic zone provides connectivity to every continent, reaching more than 130 ports in 65 international markets. Comprising London Gateway, the ports of Tilbury, and Ford’s Dagenham plant, it offers significant opportunities for international trade, economic growth and innovation.

M25 and M11 corridor

The M25 is a vital economic and transportation route connecting Essex to London and Kent. The M11 corridor provides access to the East Midlands and beyond.
